William Duvall - Jesse Smith Home

Built 1890
10 South High & 514 West Ft. Scott, Butler, Missouri

Duvall-Smith_HouseIn 1890, William Duvall (Duvall-Percival Trust Co.) married the girl next door, Jessie Childs and they build this expansive home on the northwest corner of Ft. Scott and High Streets.  Two children came along and then Jessie died in June, 1899 of consumption.  William married Regina Rosser in December, 1900.  She disliked the house and so William sold it to Jesse Smith and it was moved down the hill to 514 Ft. Scott.  Smith’s daughter, Agnes would marry Frank Cox.  The Duvalls then built a large stone house which is today part of Underwood-Brantonies Funeral Home.  The Smith house burned to the ground in mid 1970’s.
