Charles Denny Home

Built late 1860’s
400 Block of South Broadway Street, Butler, Missouri

Denny_HouseHe was not even 30 years old when Charles Denny came west from Ohio and purchased a farm on the outskirts of the new town of Butler.  Life was interrupted by the Civil War.  When the family returned to Butler, Denny built this federalist house on the hill just above Welton Lake.

The brick was home-burned in Welton’s kiln.  The Denny children married Welton children and their descendants continued to live in the home.  It was expanded to include a beauty shop for granddaughter, Helen.

With time the family moved on and the home was abandoned and empty by the 1960’s and was demolished to make room for a new housing development around the rock quarry on the southern edge of the property.
