Roy Bartlett Home
Built 1871 415 West Pine Street, Butler, Misouri
George Yocum came west from Ohio, settling in Bates County after the Civil War. He prospered at farming and stock trading and in 1871 moved to Butler and built this home at 415 West Pine. He and his wife, Emily, sold the home to John Steele in 1885. Steele’s daughter, Nettie, would marry G.P. Wyatt and live just across the street.
In 1918, Roy and Daisy Bartlett purchased the home and raised four children, Magdalene, Helen, Esther and Royce. Bartlett started an insurance business and then joined Kansas City Life Insurance serving as farm loan manager for the Midwest, Southern U.S. and Caribbean countries.
