The Boxley Home
Built 1866 - 220 North Delaware St. - Butler, Missouri
 In the January, 2012 Features we saw in the Record newspaper poke fun at Judge Boxley. Here is more about him.
Calvin Boxley was born in 1841 in Indiana. He served in the Indiana Infantry during the Civil War, after which he became a lawyer. The family moved west, settling in Butler where he built this home.
Boxley was active in Bates County society and events. He was instrumental organizing the Bates County Agriculture and Mechanical Society. They bought 60 acres of land for the Bates County Fair and Race Track which is now Oak Hill Cemetery. The circle drive was the race track. He was a charter member of the I.O.O.F. lodge in 1868. He served as probate judge and prosecuting attorney, in addition to his law practice. He retired in 1911 and moved to Kansas City, selling the home to Edwin Snider, an engineer on the railroad.
Edwin and his wife, Maude, had two children, Alex and Marguerite. Marguerite never married and remained in the home until her death in 1969.
